where to next?

you go to college and people are from all over. especially if you are from out-of-state, your collegemates may want to know if you will return home upon graduation. they want to know where you want to settle and start your post-undergrad life. if you will be attending graduate school, will you stay in that place once your studies are completed?

i decided to return to my native DC to pursue graduate studies. a sound financial decision. but i dont know if i will stay upon recieving my degree, certification, and license. once i'm legally able to practice for profit, i might want to be somewhere else. somewhere where the cost of living is a little more reasonable. somewhere where i will have representation on the hill.
it's easy to say where i don't wanna be. but where do i want to live? i'm pretty sure i want to live in the suburb of a major city. i want the convenience of access to the "hustle and bustle" of a major city with the partial seclusion and serenity of a suburb. plus that affordability. i want a front and backyard (a rare commodity in city living). i want the availability of premier education if i am blessed/cursed with children. so where does this exist?

are you in the same general area you have always been? did you move around alot? where do you want to settle down and start a family? are you content with where you are?

Good post.

I am not happy where I currently live. I was happy in Stone Mountain, but I won't ever reside there again. So I'm thinking (what city?) New Jersey or Charlotte, NC will be my destination sometime by the end of next year.

Children are simply a blessing.

I just moved 30 minutes away from where I grew up and even that has me in panic mode! I don't know if I would ever be able to move far away from my family. I think I would like for my fiance and I to move away some day but only if our parents relocate too, lol. I want my kids to grow up very close to their gradparents (and think of all the free babysitting!) because I didn't know/like my grandparents very much.

I travel a ton, so I know exactly where I DON'T want to live. I also have a shortlist of places I'd consider living (Chicago, NYC, DC, Denver and Phoenix, that's it).

I grew up in Chicago's west suburbs and I'm a card-carrying member of the north side now. I love where I live! It fits my lifestyle and I'm close to work and close enough to my mom and stepfather (30-45 min drive).

If the opportunity presented itself to move to one of my other top 5, I wouldn't hesitate, but today I'm content.

I never did a great deal of moving. I am happy with my current location and like TM if I have kids I want them to be close to where my fam is located.

I grew up in Chicago. My family's still there, but I haven't lived there since I graduated from high school. Lived in Tallahassee, Ft. Wayne, West Palm Beach, Pittsburgh, Nashua (NH).

Happy living in Nashville, TN. Wish I lived in Seattle.

I've only lived in two states...IL and NY. I always wanted to live in CA, but I don't see that happening in the near future.

I used to say on a daily basis how much I wanted to leave NYC and go back to CHI, but I've grown to love NY. Maybe one day I'll go back there to raise a family...who knows.

Oh boy- I've lived everywhere- LOL! I grew up in Ft. Wayne, IN and left home for college in Atlanta. Then it was DC, Oakland, Philly and now back to DC. I'm still trying to decide which city will be my "home"... maybe NYC?!?
