There's a difference between being alone and being lonely. Sadly, I'm both.

You're right there is a difference. And some people aren't alone but they are lonely.
While you may not want to be lonely sometimes it's better than having horribly annoying people around. I'm sure your loneliness won't last so try to look at this as a moment of peace and enjoy it as much as possible.
